Get Marches Working Plan
Genecon delivered comprehensive support to Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Herefordshire Councils in the preparation and finalising of a high-quality submission for the Department for Work & Pensions’ Get Britain Working programme. Our work was structured across four stages, ensuring the plan was robust, evidence-based, and aligned with local, regional and national priorities.
Greater Cambridge Cultural Strategy
In May 2023, Genecon – alongside partners Beispiel and Things Made Public CIC – were commissioned to produce a Cultural Infrastructure Strategy for Greater Cambridge, as Stage 1 of a three Stage process aimed at harnessing the opportunities offered by the exponential growth in the Greater Cambridge region, and ensuring that future infrastructure will meet the demands of residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
LGA Skills for Infrastructure
In March 2025 Genecon was appointed by the LGA to deliver a rapid research project exploring the intersection between infrastructure delivery and workforce demands, with a focus on housing and green skills. The project involved four national case studies and a series of in-depth interviews to understand how local authorities are navigating skills pressures and capacity gaps across major infrastructure pipelines.
Darwen – From Plan for Towns to Plan for Neighbourhoods
In May 2024, Genecon were engaged by Blackburn with Darwen Council to support the newly formed ‘Town Board’ to develop a 10-year vision and 3-year delivery plan for Darwen.
WYCA Climate & Environment Monitoring & Evaluation Framework
Genecon were engaged by West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) to develop a monitoring and evaluation framework for their Climate and Environment Plan (CEP).
Penderi Energy Project Evaluation
In May 2023, the Genecon ESG team were engaged by the Pobl Group, Wales’ leading social landlord, to conduct a comprehensive performance evaluation of their flagship energy retrofit project.
Barnsley Futures – Levelling Up Fund
Genecon was appointed to support The Barnsley Future Levelling Up Fund Bid in 2022. The bid was awarded £10.2m to transform cultural and well-being facilities in the town centre.
Sunderland Future High Streets Fund
Between September 2019 and April 2020, genecon completed the Sunderland Future High Streets Fund Bid for a £25m investment in Sunderland city centre, resulting in the full funding being awarded – the joint-highest of all bids.
Hartlepool Town Investment Plan
In July 2020, genecon was commissioned to co-ordinate the preparation of the Hartlepool Town Investment Plan, working alongside Arcadis to develop a 20-year vision that would capitalise on the town’s existing strengths and to address challenges and shortfalls to drive economic growth and resilience.
Essex Growth Model
In 2017, genecon created a toolkit to help Essex County Council take robust and effective decisions over its capital programme investments, with the goal of achieving the best possible economic and fiscal returns from up to 200 development sites across the county over the next 20 years.
