Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin & Herefordshire Councils – Get Britain Working Programme Support
Genecon delivered comprehensive support to Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Herefordshire Councils in the preparation and finalising of a high-quality submission for the Department for Work & Pensions’ Get Britain Working programme. Our work was structured across four stages, ensuring the plan was robust, evidence-based, and aligned with local, regional and national priorities.
A Multi-Phase Approach
The process began with an inception phase and the production of an inception report that set the foundation for delivery.
The second phase focused on guidance and data review. This included a thorough analysis of DWP guidance, application requirements, and national datasets, alongside local labour market, skills, health, and economic intelligence. NHS partners and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) were recognised as vital stakeholders, given their critical role in supporting people with health barriers into sustainable employment. Genecon worked to ensure health priorities and workforce needs were reflected within the plan.
In phase three, Genecon co-produced the content of the Get Britain Working Plan. Through local workshops and Task & Finish Group meetings, they worked directly with each authority, the NHS, ICBs, and wider partners to shape proposals, integrate area-specific intelligence, and ensure consistency across submissions. This collaborative process culminated in the preparation of a full draft plan and appendices, followed by stakeholder review, feedback, and refinement. Genecon then produced and quality-assured the final submission in line with the DWP timetable.
The final stage provided post-submission support. Genecon assisted with any follow-up queries from DWP, made revisions when required, and continued to work with councils, the NHS, and ICBs to enable smooth programme roll-out and transition into delivery.
Delivering the Get Marches Working Plan
Drawing on extensive experience in economic development, health-related labour market analysis, and skills policy, Genecon ensured that the resultant Get Marches Working Plan was both compelling and achievable, maximising opportunities for residents, employers, and the wider health system.
