GENECON has been appointed by the National Renewable
Energy Centre (NAREC) to help progress the 'National Wind
Development Centre' at its headquarters in Blyth, Northumberland.
Now recognised as the leading offshore wind R&D facility in the
country, NAREC is expanding its activities through the construction
of a £45m nacelle testing facility capable of testing 15MW
turbines, supported by funding from the Energy Technologies
Institute and other partners. GENECON will be supporting NAREC to
access ERDF resources, through the completion of the complex Annex
21 requirements in relation to the cost benefit analysis and the
regional economic impacts of the project.
This commission further enhances GENECON's
experience and profile in the low-carbon sector, which has included
advising on the economic impact of carbon capture and storage
networks in the North East, and supporting a major publicly owned
east coast port to develop its proposition and its marketability to
offshore wind developers.
